Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6: the chip for 2027’s flagship phones hits 5 GHz

At Snapdragon Summit 2026, held September 22–24, Qualcomm introduced the processors for the next generation of flagship Android phones: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.

What’s new

• 2 nm manufacturing (TSMC): more performance with less battery drain.
• The Extreme version has the first phone CPU to reach 5 GHz, according to Qualcomm.
• Claimed gains over the previous generation: CPU up to 13% faster, graphics up to 44% and AI processing (NPU) up to 35%.
• On-device AI: runs models of up to 30 billion parameters without the cloud, which helps privacy and works offline.
• 8K video at 60 frames per second.

Which brands will use them

Honor, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo and Xiaomi confirmed devices with the new chips. The first announced were the iQOO 16, RedMagic 12 Pro+ and Motorola Signature 27. Samsung wasn’t on the published list.

Also announced

• Snapdragon Sound Elite: a chip for AI earbuds and glasses, with more AI capability and lower power use.
• Snapdragon X2 laptops on Linux: Debian support by the end of 2026 and Ubuntu certification planned for the first half of 2027.
