One of the most famous games of all time is back with a makeover: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a remake for Nintendo Switch 2, launching on November 5, 2026. The date was confirmed during the special Nintendo Direct for Zelda’s 40th anniversary in September.

What’s new in the remake
- Completely rebuilt visuals, with voiced cutscenes and more dialogue.
- Orchestrated soundtrack.
- Modern controls and camera: Link can now jump with a button, roll and dash to cross the map faster.
- amiibo support, including new young Link and Zelda figures planned for 2027.
- ZELDA NOTES smartphone app as a companion.
Does it run on the original Switch?
No. The remake is exclusive to Switch 2. The original Ocarina of Time (from 1998) is still available on Switch and Switch 2 through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, in the Nintendo 64 game library.
